Dear Mr. Rasin:

Along with your letter dated June 1,1993 to me, you enclosed a copy of the Electric Power Research Institute's (EPRI) draft report TR-102470 entitled

" Analysis of High-Frequency Seismic Effects." You indicated that EPRI is currently conducting a test program to corroborate the analytical results outlined in the report; that the industry plans to use the results of EPRI Report TR-102470 in designing future plants; and that NUMARC transmitted a copy of the report as part of an industry comment package that was prepared in response to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's proposed revision to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Part 100 (10 CFR Part 100).

The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation will review EPRI Report TR-102470 in coordination with the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, which has the responsibility for the revision of 10 CFR Part 100.

I estimate that the review should be completed in Spring 1994.

I expect that the review will require interactions between NRC staff and the staffs of NUMARC and EPRI.

Your cooperation in making appropriate arrangements will be appreciated.
