Dear Mr. Graham-

SUBJECT:

PLANT SPECIFIC HYDROGEN CONTROL ANALYSIS On August 6, 1990, the Hydrogen Control Owners Group submitted topical report l

HGN-112-NP, " Generic Hydrogen Control Information for BWR/6 Mark III Containments." The NRC staff published a safety evaluation report of their review of this report in NUREG-1417, " Safety Evaluation Report related to Hydrogen Control Owners Group Assessment of Mark III Containments."' By letters of August 29 and 30, 1991, Mr. J. R. Langley, Chairman of the Hydrogen Control Owners Group, requested and provided justification for several changes in the conclusions of the staff's safety evaluation. On June 26, 1993, the staff issued a supplemental safety evaluation report (SSER) (enclosed)

.i addressing the issues raised by the Owners Group.

i F

Receipt of this letter initiates commitments by each Mark III owner to submit j

a plant specific hydrogen control analysis for each facility. The staff does not intend to perform a detailed review of this analysis if it is conducted in accordance with the approved topical report.

Each licensee is requested to i

perform the final plant specific analysis and retain it as part of the.

j permanent plant records.

The staff wishes to only be advised by letter of the completion date as well as any significant findings and conclusions of your

'i analysis.

l If you have any questions, please contact me.
