SUBJECT: NRC Combined Inspection Nos. 50-352/93-17; 50-353/93-17

An announced inspection of the radioactive waste handling, processing, storage,' and

transportation programs was conducted at the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station by Mr.

t

R. Nimitz during the period July 6-9,1993. The findings of the inspection were discussed

with Mr. R. Boyce, on July 9,1993.

' Areas reviewed during the inspection were imponant to health and safety and are fully

discussed in the enclosed inspection report. The areas reviewed were audits and technical -

,

monitoring, changes, training and qualifications; procedures and records; radioactive waste

handling and storage, radioactive waste shipping activities; 10 CFR Pan 61; and station

conditions.

The inspection identified that generally very good radioactive waste handling, storage,

processing, and transponation programs were implemented at Limerick Generating Station.

The programs were generally well managed with a good level of technical expertise available

to suppon these programs.

There were two unn: solved items identified. The first involved completion of sign-offs for

training records. The second involved the method of calculation of curie content of

radioactive waste shipping packages. These matters are discussed in the enclosed inspection

repon.
