SUBJECT:

HEALTH PHYSICS POSITION ON THE USE OF ELECTRONIC DOSlh1ETERS TO h!EASURE DOSE OF RECORD The Region I reactor health staff has reviewed the subject HP position on the use of electronic dosimeters to determine the dose of record, outlined in D. Cool's memorandum of June 30,19 2, and

as described below.

l The current and "new" Part 20 require that personnel dosimeters that require processing, such as TLDs or film badges, be processed by a NVLAP certified processor. Processors seeking to obtain or retain their NVLAP accreditation are subject to periodic audit by an independent assessor, and as part of the process are scnt exposed " test" TLDs and/or film -

badges to be processed, and the results sent to and evaluated by NVLAP. Stringent acceptance criteria for each of the NVLAP categories in which the rocessor wishes to be certified must be met in order to retain their accreditation.
