Wree copies cf an 8-1/2-in by ll-in sketch which shcus the locaticn j

of the pwerhouse wM reference to the bank of the river. mis sketch I

can be worked with i.e topographic nap, because it is referenced to the

]

Minnesota coordinate system. You will notice that the riverward face of the powerhouse is about 200 ft landward of the river bank.

j 6.

tree copies of a flood frequency curve and three copies of a stage-j discharge curve. W e yard grade at the plant is presently established at elevation 93i, which is 14 ft zbove the predicted stage for the i

l 1,000 year flocS and 19 ft higher than the neximun flood of record.

7.

Wree copies ef an aerial photograph of the site. %ese could be J

useful in intorpreting the contours shown on the topographic map.

]

As shown in f ne pWwgraph, the plant is located on a plateau which has elevatirns in the range of 930. Elevations innediately upriver,

)

or to the yight on the photograph, are higher, generally around 940, and elevations downriver, or to the left on the photograph, are about 10 ft lower than at the plant site, being around elevation 920. W ese can be confirmed in detail by reference to the i.vr;g1.aphic maps.

IXmes & M3 ore acted as consultant to General Electric Ompany in the matter of j

detentaning allcuable soil boring pressures for detailed foundation design. We j

are obtaining copies of their reports frm General Electric and will send them to you within the next few days.

l l

We are also obtaining frcm General Electric copies of the foundation excavation i

drawings, which will permit your consultant to relate the foundations with the j

soil boring logs. %e excavation for the reactor building has been dug to ele-i vation 884 to rmove the clay layer occurring innediately above that elevation, j

and cmpacted granular backfill will be placed in the excavation to bring it to j

i the bottom of the reactor foundation slab. %e excavation in the turbine Itxzn j

l area has been carried to elevation 902, where adequate soil bearing values were j

reached.

i In the study of seis: ology, General Electric has engaged John A Blume and Associ-ates of San Francisco as consultants. General Electric will supply copies of 1

j B1me reports on seismology for your review.
