Operating Procedures on Model No. STL-201 Package II Procedure Instruction Pertinct to Receiving and Unloading model No. STL-201 Package III Maintenance Program on Model No. STL-201 Package
Dear Sir:
This is in reference to your letter. dated June 6, 1990 requesting a revision to our Certificate of Compliance No.
9024, for the Model No. STL-201 package.
By:your request I am submitting:
1.
a list of operating procedures presented sequentially in order in which the operations are performed. The procedures also address inspection prior to loading, notes on package handling, installation of security seals and labels, determination of
. external radiation per regulatory l'imits,
- 2. a list of procedure instructions pertinent to receiving and unloading the package and limits on package content and 3. the maintanence program describing ckecks on labels and cannister's damage, quarterly inspection of cannister annually, semi-annually leak test inspection of cannister.

I.
OPERATING PROCEDURES ON MODLE NO. STL-201 PACKAGE 1.
Visually determine cannister is not damaged (dents, holes).
2.
Check all labels, must be legible,:
a.
(2) each:
Caution-Radioactive material b.
(2) each:
Department of Transportation Type B labels showing companys' name, model number, serial number and weight.
3.
Insert source in cannister, place lid on top of cannister, place locking ring sealing cannister and lid together, and lock saftey ring.
4.
Determine, by the amount of radiation at (1) meter from cannister, what Department of Transportation yellow stickers (quantity 2) to be used: yellow II or yellow III.
5.
Place cannister in vehicle.
6.
Fasten cannister securely to vehicle.
7.
After completing job return source to cannister, secure and lock safety ring.

8.
Check radiation level at (1) meter from cannister and fasten cannister to vehicle.
l 9.
After returning back to the lab and before unlocking i
cannister, check radiation level again making sure radiati3n level is the same as the original reading.
10.
Unlock safety ring, take off lid, take source container out and place it in the vault.

Put lid back on cannister, safety ring (unlocked) around

it, return cannister assembly to storage area.

II.
PROCEDURE INSTRUCTION PERTINENT TO~RECEVING AND UNIDADING MODEL NO. STL-201 PACKAGE u.
1.
Upon receiving a package with new source:
a.'
Radiation Survey (Radiation level should be same as on yellow III transportation sticker).
b.
Check for damages to cannister, c.
Remove source cannister, making sure source containe is sealed.
d.
Leak test source container and inside of cannister in accordance with STL procedures, e.
Return cannister to storage area.
2.
Model No. STL-201 package is made to house no more the 100 curies of IR192.

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM ON MODEL NO. STL-201 PACKAGE 4
1.
Daily check to make sure all labels are visible and there is no damage to cannister.
2.
Quarterly inspection of cannister assembly:
a.
Check cannister b.
Check lid c.
Check locking ring d.
Check wooden block inside of cannister e.
Check labels 3.
Anything found defective in step (1) and (2) will be either fixed or replaced.
4.
Semi-annually leak test inspection of inside of cannister.
