Dear Mr. MacDonald,
Thank you_for your letter of July 11, 1990, in response to our request for renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9160 for Gulf
-Nuclear Model No. 20-VS and 40-VS shipping packages.
L We had first explained in my letter of September 22, 1989, and then at our meetings at NRC with you and your colleagues on January 8, 1990, and July 18, 1990, that it was.not possible for Amersham to submit a consolidated application for Model No. 20-VS and 40-VS.
We have' never manufactured these containers and have no plans to do so.
We did not receive adequate information on these containers L
from Gulf Nuclear-at the time of Amersham's acquisition of their sealed source business-to be' able to submit a consolidated application, so, my colleague,_ Ms.
Cathleen Roughan, then submitted a Freedom of Information request to NRC but again the information we received proved insufficient for us to assemble.a consolidated application.
It appears, therefore, that since we are unable to submit a consolidated application we have no alternative but to accept that Certificate of Compliance No. 9160 will be terminated.
