SECY-89-177 - REVIEW C E 4 ISTING REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR EXTENDED INTERIM STORAGE OF I4W-LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE This is to advise you that the commission, (with all Commissioners agreeing) has approved the staff's proposed development of guidance on extended interim storage of I
low-level waste.
However, the Commission (with Chairman Zach and commissioners carr and Curtiss agreeing) has disapproved issuance of the proposed policy statement.
Commiscioner Carr (with the concurrence of Commissioner-Curtiss) does not believe that the statement is appropriate or timely at this point; Chairman'Zech believes that it needs to be modified to clearly state the Commissions' uosition on.the need for low-level waste disposal rather storage.
Commissioners Rogers and Roberts would have
% sued the policy statement.
