Dear Governor Orr:
Thank you for your letter dated June 29 1990 to Robert J. Doda, Regiol IV State Agreements Officer, which provIded a prompt response to our-assessment of the Nebraska radiation control program.
I appreciate your perscnal attention to the findings of our review.
l Your letter provided response actions to all of the findings discussed at the conclusion of our review. We believe these-actions wi11' produce positive and direct. improvements in the Nebraska radiation control
-program.
In fact, the actions you' described address our concerns to the extent that we will-request no further answers to the-formal review.
letter that will be addressed to the Directors of the Department of Health (DOH)andtheDepartmentofEnvironmentalControl(DEC)..-Weplan to conduct a follow-up review within six months to determine the progress of the actions undertaken by both Departments for the agreement materials program.
We also appreciate you providing us a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between DOH and DEC dated June 29,1990.- Since the K00 designates DEC as an agency also involved in. administering the-274b agreement signed by the State of Nebraska, NRC will work with both-DOH and DEC to determine the status of the interrelated agreement r.aterials program in the State of Nebraska.
In the future, NRC reviews will encompass both agencies and one determination will be made as to the adequacy and compatibility of the State of Nebraska's' programs for adninistrating the 274b agreement. As pointed out in your letter, we will use Mr. Harold Borchert, DOH, and Mr. Jay;D. Ringenberg, DEC, as-
-contact persons for routine matters for the agreement materials program.
With your designation of these individuals, we propose to send the results of future reviews of the Nebraska program jointly to the Directors of DOH and DEC for a tingle response to NRC.
Your letter also named Mr. Thomas R. Lamberson as Nebraska's-State
-Liaison Officer. We will keep Mr. Lamberson appraised of allt programmatic matters and will acknowledge his-appointment in a separate letter.
