CHAIRMAN i

The Honorable Malcolm Wallop l

United States Senate Washington, D.C.

Dear Ser.ntor Wallop:

I am responding to your letter of June 5,1990, in which you expressed opposition to the proposed closure of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Uranium. Recovery Field Of fice (URF0) in Denver.

The Commission considered such a proposal in late June-1990, but decided not to initiate such hetion at-this time.

Although our Denver office will remain open, we_may need to reconsider this decision at some future time as. budget and workload considerations warrant.

I appreciate your interest in NRC and its programs.

Sincerely,

\\L n.e Kenneth'M. Carr i
