Decommissioning Funding Plan Dear Sir!

In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.33 and 50.75, the following decommissioning funding report for the University of Illinois Advanced TRIGA reactor is hereby submitted:

1)

The estimated cost of decommissioning the University of Illinois Advanced TRIGA reactor facility is $2.4 million.

The decommissioning method will entail the removal of all radioactive and contaminated material down to levels acceptable for unrestricted use.

The cost estimate is based on the recent, actual decommissioning cost of a similar reactor facility at the University of California, Berkeley.

The University of Illinois is a state government institution and therefore, in accordance with the provision

  • of 10 CFR 50.75 (e) (2) (iv), the funds needed for decommissioning will be requested at the time when a decision to decommission the facility is made.

The cost estimate for decommissioning the facility will be periodically adjusted for inflation, taking account of new data if available.

Revised estimates will be reported to the Commission at intervals not to exceed five years.
