Dear Mr. Griepentrog:
Thank you for your letter of June 15, 1990, informing me of the position taken by the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Forum on the need for a. uniform manifest for low-level radioactive waste transport.
As I stated in my response'to Mr. Ruben Alvarado of the. Host State. Technical Coordinating Committee, I agree that-there.are a number of advantages to a uniform manifest, and I personally support this concept.
In our current rulemaking to improve shipment manifest information and reporting, the Commission will consider the requirement for a uniform manifest.
As I -elso stated to Mr. Alvarado, development of a uniform mani-fest would require a considerable amount of coordination among disposal facility operators, Compact authorities, State regulatory agencies, Federal agencies, and interested members of the public.
We therefore look forward _ to seeing an example of a unf form manifest that has the endorsement of both the LLW Forum and the Host State Technical Coordinating Committee-in the near future.
Sincere 1y, n ba Kenneth M. Carr 00 19 h
