STAFF REQUIREMENTS - P ]RI IC BRIEFING ON OPERATING PLANTS AND FWEL ACILITIES, 9:00 A.M.,
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 1990, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The commission
- was briefed by the NRC staff on the status of operating reactors and fuel facilities.
Commissioner Rogers expressed an interest in the possible change to procedural adherence requirements which would delete
.the words " verbatim compliance."
He was specifically concerned about how we ensure consistent application of procedures in all regions once this term-is removed.
Chairman Carr noted that the number of escalated. enforcement actions have inclyd3ed in the materials area due to increased inspection-activiEles.
The Chairman requested to be advised on the resources required and whether resources are being
~ diverted'from licensing and inspection to conduct these-activities as well as impacts'of diverting these resources.
The Chairman also asked that staff advise the Commission of any progress in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the enforcement program.
He also urged the staff to reduce the
-length of time required to generate an escalated enforcement
. action.
