NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION-r,,
j WASHINGTON, D. C. 20556
= *g,,,,,j-June ?l, 1990 CHAIRMAN -
l Ruben A. Alvarado, P.E.
Convener, Host State Technical Coordinating Committee Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste-Disposal Authority
-7701 North Lamar 01vd.
Austin, Texas-78752
Dear Mr. Alvarado:
Thank you for your letter of May 21, 1990, informing me of the position taken by.the Host State Technical Coordinating Committee for Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal on the need for a uniform a
manifest to accompany shipments of low-level radioactive waste for
~
Lbrokerage, treatment, and disposal.
As you point out, there are a number of advantages to a uniform manifest, and I personally.
support this concept.
In our current rulemaking to improve ship-ment manifest information and reporting, the Commission will consider.the requirement for a uniform manifest.
Development of aLuniform manifest would require a considerable amount of coordination among disposal. facility operators, Compact authorities, State regulatory agencies, Federal agencies, and interestedfmembers of-the public.LWe look forward, therefore, to i
seeing.your: example of a uniform manifest in the near future.
Sincerely, r_eA M.
