Subject:

James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-333 Interim Dose Assessment System FUREG-0737 Item III.A.2.2

Dear Sir:

In our letter dated July 6, 1982 (Reference 1), the Authority indicated that an interim dose assessment system would be operational by July 31, 1982.

The operability of this system was demonstrated during pre-op testing and trial runs, prior to that date.

However, since the initial runs, electrical problems have been encountered with the computer located at the vendor's office.

Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, with whom the Authority is sharing this meterological system, has undertaken efforts to expedite their correction by the computer vendor.

It is anticipated that these problems will be corrected I

within two weeks.

Your office will be notified if the interim dose assessment system is not returned to operability by August 17, 1982.

The Authority will continue to work closely wi'i. Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation to assure the timely completion of this interim dose assessment system. We understand that Niagara Mohawk has previously informed you of this situation.

If you have any further questions, please contact Mr. J.A. Gray, Jr. of my staff.

Very truly yours,

{od
