(Palisades Nuclear Power Facility) )

NRC STAFF RESPONSE TO LICENSING BOARD MEMORANDUM AND ORDER OF JUNE 23, 1982 The Licensing Board's Memorandum and Order briefly recapitulated the history of this proceeding and asked the Applicant and Staff certain specific questions regarding the status of the application for amendment.

In so far as the Staff possesses information meaningfully to respond, we do so here.

1. Current status:

At the present time the Staff review of the application to amend the provisional operating license relative to steam generator replacement has been indefinitely postponed as a result of Applicant's decision to hold the application in abeyance.

a) The applicant is the proper party to respond to this question.

b) The Staff has no present scheduled plan for completion of an Environmental Impact Statement.

c) No discovery has been commenced between the Staff and any party.

d) In light of the Applicant's decision to hold the application in abeyance, the Staff is of the opinion that it would be premature at this time to estimate whether a hearing is necessary. We would 8207140023 820712 PDR ADOCK 05000255 G PDR
