Dear Mr. Grimes:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Prompt flotification System Due to our change in Architect-Engineer and an ongoing revision to our construction schedule, Houston Liahting & Power Company is still evaluating the design and schedule for the Prompt Notification System.

Houston Lighting & Power Company will ensure that a Prompt Notification System complying with applicable regulations is operational 6 months before fuel load of the South Texas Project, Units 1 & 2.

We anticipate that we will be in a position to submit an implementation schedule for the Prompt Notification System by July 1983. This is consistent with our recent revision in expected completion dates for STP as described in the Construction Permit extension dated April 30, 1982.

Very truly yours, n
