Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Defective Agastat i Relays (#54)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This additional interim report on the defective Agastat relays problem has been prepared to provide you with the current status of this problem.

The item was originally reported to Mr. J. Neisler of NRC Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance on February 5, 1982.

I At that time, Detroit Edison had received notification frcxn Control Products Division of Anurace Corporation that Agastat E7000 Series timing relays supplied to the Fermi 2 Site were defective. This problem had been reported [

by Amarace Corporation to the NRC per 10CFR21 requirements.

4 The pneumatic timing diaphragms manufactured by one supplier exhibited 3 bleed-out of a fluid substance which affected the tine delay of the relay.

!' Relays containing these diaphragms were about 20% of the production between the 24th week of 1981 and the 3rd week of 1982.

I l One such relay was located on the EF-2 site. DDR # E-7767 vras written. A j replacenent relay is on order and upon its receipt the defective relay will l be removed and returned to th2 Amerace Corporation.

Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent to you on or before October 15, 1982. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours, C
