This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject its initially reported to the Camission as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

Henry J. Kaiser Co. (HJK), principal constructor, notified CG&E that certain maintenance work may have been perforned by CG&E without adequate QA coverage. This work does not involve maintenance performed using special processes, but rather is limited in scope to mechanically connected cmponents such as flanges, pump casings and valve bonnets. The investigation to date indicates that all of the QA attributes pertauung to a specific application may not have been inspected.

Further investigation is underway to determine if additional objective evidence of the impl eentation of a QA program can be identified or if this condition could adversely affect the safety of operations of the plant. A follow-up report will be subnitted by July 31, 1982, to address any required corrective action necessary to resolve this itm.
