Seismic Design Review
Dear Sir:
Enclosed is a description of the p;ogram Maine Yankee will undertake to reconfirm and document plant seismir, safety margins by application of suitable criteria and methods of analvMs.
A specific objective of this program is to demonstrate that the systems and equipment necessary to achieve safe hot shutdown remain available following an earthquake stronger than the plant was designed to withstand.
If our analyses indicate deficiencies, they will be corrected.
The more general objective of this program is to demonstrate that the plant's seismic capability is generally consistent with to that of other New England plants.
This program is still in the formative stage in that commercial contracts for the work involved have not yet been executed. As detailed commercial work scopes are developed, there may be revisions to the program in some areas.
As these work scopes develop, we will be in a position to provide additional information.
