'Ihis letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject deficiency, initially reported to the Ccmnission on May 10, 1982, under the requirmrants of 10CFR50.55(e).
Catalytic Inc., a contractor at the Zimner Plant, was preparing to initiate field modifications which resulted frca a reanalysis of the Control Rod Drive (CRD) System. 'Ihis reanalysis was required by the lack of consideration of hydrodynamic transient loads in the original design. '1his particular deficiency was previously reported to the Ccmnission as Item M-32 under 10CFR50.55(e).
Catalytic discovered and subsequently notified CG&E of nonconforming conditions on the supports for the CRD piping. CU&E performed a field walkdown of approximately 10% of the installed supports and found the fab-rication and welding to be in nonempliance with the requirments of the Sargent & Lundy design specification H-2832. CG&E also reviewed the fabri-cation and installation records supplied by Reactor Controls Inc. and dis--
covered that the supports were not fabricated or installed under a Quality Assurance Program conforming to the 18 point criteria of 10CFR50 Appendix B or the requirements of Sargent & Lundy Design Specification H-2832. CG&E is currently evaluating this dei Lency and determining the necessary corrective action to be taken. she next report will be filed on or before July 31, 1982.
