Mr. William Cormier Office of Administrative Vice Chancellor

, University of California 405 Hilgard Avenue Los Ane eles, CA 90024 In the Matter of

'Ihe Regents of the University of California (UCLAResearchReactor)

Docket No. 50-142 (Proposed Renewal of Facility License) l RE: COPYING & PORTIONS & CERTAIN OPERATING IOGS l Dear Mr. Cormier By letter of May 23, 1981, CBG requested copying of portions of certain operating logs it had reviewed at certain document production l

sesssions.

You replied in a letter dated June 4,1981, that you intended "to defer copying the pages of the logs" until CBG had completed its review of those logs and presented you with a single integrated list of pages of the logs to be copied.

Our review of the logs through 1991 appears complete, ani we therefare provide you with the requested integrated list of pages to be copied, attached.

We assume the University still has been unable to locate Volume I of the operating logs (as well as all pre-71 minutes of the l Reactor Hazards Committee, the Project Planning Guide or design criteria for the Reactor Building, and "as-built" drawings more up-to-date than the ones we have already examined). If we are incorrect and any of the above documents have now been located, please so inform me.

PJ. ease let Steve Aftergood at our Los Angeles office know ithen, the copying is complete and he will arrange to have the log copies picked up, p3 Si e oly,

After the first page we identified to be copied, we dropped the prefix.

For the 1979 log, the pages are numbered with the year following the page number--e.g., 9-79, 15-79.

After the first few pages we identified, we dropped the suffic.

For those two logs, there may be material on the back of a page-i.e., the front may be numbered 78-33, ard the back have no number. Assume that we only want the front part of the page copied. There is only one exception,78-171, where we want both sides copied. To make that clear, we have asked that 78-171 a and b be copied; i.e., both sides of the page.

The 1979 log to which we refer is the log that ends around October of 1979.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please call Daniel Hirsch at (408) 336-5381 or (213) 478-0829 to clarify the matter before proceeding to copy the material.

When the copies are ready, please contact Steve Aftergood at(213)478-0829 to arrange for the documents to be picked up.

Please keep the copies for each volume separate, with a cover sheet identifying the log from which each came (i.e., identifying the log by number, if numbered, and by beginning ani ord date covered in the log).

Thank you.
