This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the referenced potential deficiencies, initially reported to the Commission on May 10, 1982, under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

On May 7,1982, llenry J. Kaiser Company (llJK) notified CG&E that during a random review of radiographs of the Sacrificial Shield, Containment monorail and ventilation stack welds, potentially reportable deficiencies were noted in both the weld quality and the radiographic quality. These alleged con-ditions included altered reader sheets, weld deficiencies and questionable coverage. Since the reporting date, weekly meetings hnvc been held jointly with IIJK and CCSE to determine the extent of the problem, if any, and the course of action to be taken. As a result of these meetings, it has been determined that a complete review of all sacrificial shield weld radiographs will be performed by llJK.

The other areas in question will be addressed at later meetings. It is expected that these items will be resolved by December 31, 1982, at which time a final report will be submitted.
