Zion Station Unit 1 Steam Generator Inspection and Repair NRC Docket No. 50-295 Reference (a):

Ma y 17, 1982, letter from F. Lentine to D. G. Eisenhut.

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

This is to provide clarification to the discussion of the incore instrumentation tubing contained in Appendix C to reference (a).

This information was requested by your staff in a telecon on Jun e 3, 1982.

The incore instrumentation system consists of 58 incore thimble tubes with six detectors ( A through F).

Each detector is used to scan nine or ten o f the thimbles and all are normally cali-brated in a single thimble,. installed for the purpose.

If the use of the calibration thimble is lost, each detector can be inserted in any o f the ten "C" detector thimbles.

Therefore, there are ten alternative thimbles that can be used for calibration.

Please address any questions regardin'g this matter to this o f fice.

Very truly yours, jj $$a F. G. Lentine Nuclear Licensing Administrator 1m 0\\
