NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION j

j WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555

=

c June 30,1982 CHAIRMAN i

The Honorable Nrris Udall, Chairman.

Comittee on Interior and Insular Affairs United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515

Dear Mr. Chainnan:

I am writing in response to your June 6,1982 letter on the nuclear data link program, in which you request that the Commission defer issuance of the Request for Proposal (RFP) until the conference committee discussions on the Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC) Authorization Bill are concluded.

It is our understanding that the conferees have reached agreement on language relating to the nuclear data link. Our intention is that the RFP be within the parameters already agreed to by the conferees.

It would be useful if you could advise us as to whether the conferees still wish the NRC to defer issuance of the RFP until all conference action is completed or whether we may go ahead and issw! an RFP in line with the guidance already agreed to by the conferees.

Issuance of the RFP would be with the understanding that no final contract action would be taken on the data link until after the conference is completed.

Your prompt guidance on this matter would be appreciated.

Sincerely, n

' hu Nunzio J. Palladino l
