SUBJECT:

LER 82-27 (U-1); LER 82-25 (U-2)

Dear Mr. Haynes This letter is to confirm our verbal notification to your Mr. Ralph Architzel of the discovery that all three diesel generators were simultaneously inoperable.

At 0623 on 6-2-82 with Unit 1 in Mode 5 and Unit 2 in Mode 1 and Service Transformer P-13000-2 removed from service for preventitive maintenance, Emergency Diesel Generator 21 tripped on loss of field while loaded after a test start and was declared inoperable. Emergency Diesel Generator 12 was then started and loaded and it also tripped on loss of field at 0705 and was also declared inoperable. Since Emergency Diesel Generator 11 was out of service for maintenance, only the offsite power sources remained operable (T.S. 3.8.1.2 for Unit 1; T.S. 3.3.1.1 and 3.0.5 for Uriit 2). Emergency Diesel Generator 12 was restarted and declared operable at 0735. Emergency Diesel Generator 21 was tested and declared operable at 0800, thus terminating this event.

A complete description of this event and any further corrective action will be l

addressed in a follow-up report.

Very truly yoitrs, 9
