ENCLOSURE l Request for Additional Information e
270.1 The description of the qualification program for safety-related mechanical equipment in Section 3.11 of the FSAR is not sufficient for demonstrating compliance with General Design Criteria 1 and 4 of Appendix A and Sections III and XI of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50.
Provide the following additional information for our review:
a)
Confirmation that mechanical components in the safety-related systems identified in your January 25, 1982 electrical equip-ment qualification program have been included in your mechan-ical qualification program, b) Some environmental parameters specified in the FSAR for nechanical equipment qualification are different from those in the January 25, 1982 electrical equipment submittal (e.g., accident radiation doses are up to an order of magnitude lower in the FSAR). These environments should be revised and updated to correspond to the electrical equipment environments, or lustification provided for their continued use.
c) The current status of this equipment.
If qualification is complete for all items, so indicate.
ff additional review and evaluation are required, briefly de, scribe the tasks to be performed.
270.2 The staff will select items for audit.
The i
staff review will concentrate on materials which are sensitive to environmental effects, for example, seals, gaskets, luhricants, fluids for hydraulic systems, diaphragms.
In the mild environment, mechanical equipment should be subjected to a maintenance and surveillance program to ensure operability throughout the life of the plant.
