Advisory Council On Historic Preservation 1522 K Street. NW Reply to: Lake Plaza South. Suite 616 Washington. DC 20005 44 Union Boulevard Lakewood. CO 80228 April 20, 1982 Mr. Robert L. Tedesco Assistant Director for Licensing Division of Licensing Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Tedesco:

On April 16, 1982, we received your letter confirming a prior telephone discussion with my staff regarding emergency treatment to rectify minor damage to site 16 EBR 52, Port Hudson Battlefield, Iouisiana, a designated National Historic Landmark. Because inspection of the property by the Louisiana State Archeologist and the project archeologist confirms that damage from equipment backing over the toe of the earthenwork is minor, we agree with the recommendations of the archeologists that installation of a fabric mesh and reseeding of the impacted area is an appropriate action to prevent erosion of the site. We do not believe further action is warranted or necessary.

Thank you for promptly notifying the Council of the situation and the steps taken to recity the problem. The cooperation of NRC is appreciated.

Sincerely,

~
