SU:tiARY OF FIRE PROTECTION MEETING C.

A meetinq was held January 6,1982 in Bethesda, fiaryland with representatives from Coanonwealth Edison Conpany to discuss the applicant's fire protection program for the Byron Station. A list of attendees is given in Enclosure 1.

The following topics were discussed:

1.

Class A circuits for fire detection systens (resolved);

2.

Fire-rated penetration seals (resolved);

3.

Snoke detectors for control roon (resolved);

4.

Sprinklers in cable screading room (applicant and staff disagreement; iten is unresolved);

5.

Oil collection system for reactor coolant ou9ps (applicant and staff disagreenent; item is unresolved);

6.

Fire protection features for safe shutdown systems (applicant agreed to respond to staff concerns);

7.

Administrative controls and fire brigade (applicant agreed to respond to staff concerns);

8.

Technical Specifications (applicant agreed with staff concerns, will review in detail with all Tech Specs);

9.

Appendix R coqnitments (aoplicant co9nitted with several exceptions).

liith regard to the applicants position that the RCP oil collection systen is not needed for Byron Station, the staff indicated that additional information was needed to complete its evaluation. The additional information required is listed in Enclosure 2.

y 011 Collection System Additional Information To complete the staff's evaluation of the applicants position on the Oil Collection System the following information should be provided.

a.

Additional ALARA considerations associated with RCP maintenance caused by the installation of an oil collection system.

Data should be based on experience at other Commonwealth Edison plants.(Zion).

b.

Design information on the RCP oil lubrication system including the probable amounts and the locations or equipment affected by oil leakage.

c.

Analyses of the effect on safety related equipment of a fire caused by RCP oil leakage.
