FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT - UNITS 1 AND 2 FARLEY PROTECTION UPP M)E RESPONSE TO 10CFR50.48 AND 10CFR50 APFLNDIX R REQUIREMENTS Gentlemen:
Alabama Power Company has requested in letters of June 23, 1981 and January 28, 1982 that the date in 10CFR50.48, Paragraph (c)(5) for ubmitting design description of dedicated shutdown systems, or other similar modifica-tions, be extended to October 1, 1982 for Unit 1 and June 1, 1982 for Unit 2.
Based on a thorough review of the subject design effort and the similarity between the two units, the design descriptions for both units may be addressed by a single submittal. Consequently, an exemption is requested, pursuant to 10CFR50.12, from the requirements of 10CFR50.48 to allow the extension of the date in the aforementioned letters for submitting design descriptions of alternate or dedicated shutdown systems needed to satisfy Section III.G.3 of 10CFR, Part 50, Appendix R, from June 1, 1982 for Unit 2 and October 1, 1982 for Unit 1 to July 1, 1982 for both Units 1 and 2.
