NRC HEARING ON FERMI NUCLEAR PLANT TO BEGIN MARCH 31 IN MONROE, MICHIGAN The presiding Atomic Safety and Licensing Board ha gscheduled a public hearing to begin March 31 in Monroe, Michigan, in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing proceeding on the application of Detroit Edison Company.and other owners for a license to operate Unit,
2 of the Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant being built in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County, Michigan.
The other owners are Northern Michigan Electric Cooperative, Inc. and the Wolverine Electric Coopera-
,tive Inc.
The hearing will begin at 9:00 a.m.
on Wednesday, March 31, in the Monroe City, Council Chambers, City Hall Building, 120 E. First Street, Monroe.
If not completed by the end of the week, it will continue on April 8 and 9 of the next week.
On the first day of the hearing, the Licensing Board will provide jeg an opportunity for members of the public who wish to evpre,ss th=.4 r views on the issues to present oral or written limited appearance state-ments.
A limited appearance statement is not given under oath and is not evidence upon which the decision will be based.
However, such a hstatement may serve to alert the Board to areas for which it should require the parties to present evidence.
1 In addition to the license applicants, other parties to the pro-ceeding are intervenor Citizens for Employment and Energy and the NRC Staff.
l The Licensing Board consists of the following Administratipe Judges:
Gary L. Milhollin, Esq., who is Chairman of the Board; pr.
David R.
Schink; and Dr. Peter A. Morris.
Judge Milhollin is as.soci-ated with the Law School at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; Judge Schink is with the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, and Judge Morris, a nuclear physicist, serves as a full time Administrative Judge on the NRC Atomic Safety and Licens-ing Board Panel.
