Dear Mr. Keppler:
On January 29, 1982 (Serial 1-244) and February 4, 1982 (Serial 1-247) Toledo Edison Company notified you of deficiencies in the prompt notification system for the 10-mile EPZ of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1.
At that time, five sirens of the total 42-siren system, were inoperable due to problems with the radio decoders.
On Wednesday, March 31, 1982, a test of the full siren system w3s conducted by the Ottawa County Disaster Services Agency, as part of the statewide Tornado Safety Program.
Spotters from Toledo Edison Company were placed at each of the previously inoperable sirens to verify the deficiency corrections.
Four of the five sirens operated as designed; one failed to operate. A check of that unit revealed mechanical failures which have since been corrected. The unit was tested and it is now operational.
Based on these results, we are notifying you that all deficiencies identified l
on January 29, 1982 and February 4, 1982 have been corrected.
Should you have any further questions, contact Judith Hirsch, Emergency Planning Supervisor, at 419-259-2377.
Very truly yours, h-
