Dear Sir:

In reply to reference (b), the following information is submitted:

ITEM OF NON-COMPLIANCE

  • Reference (b) sets forth the specific violation.

Since safeguards information is contained in the citation, this information is not reproduced here.

This is a Severity Level III Violation (Supplement III).

RESPONSE

An in depth investigation was conducted for the purpose of ascertaining the circumstances surrounding this incident and the factors contributing to its occurrence.

Site personnel were reminded, via memoranda from the Vice President of Operations, The Security Supervisor, the Chief of Security Guard Force, and the Assistant Plant Manaaer, that security procedures and policies must be strictly followed and that tailgating, a serious violation of regulatory requirements and security orocedures, is strictly prohibited.

This action was completed shortly after this incident. No further instances of tailgating have occurred.

Since this incident, a new training program, for Security personnel has been implemented.

Strict compliance with all procedures and regulations is emphasized in this program.

Haynes, Regional Administrator Page Two The fact that tailgating is strictly prohibited, and will not be tolerated, has been and will continue to be stressed during new employee orientation training and plant retraining sessions.

These actions taken, concerning this incident, should prevent a similar occurrence.

Maine Yankee is now in full compliance with the applicable sections of the Security Plan.

This letter has been determined not to contain safeguards information.
