power plants involved in specific licensing actions.
This includes identification of core and coolant conditions which would lead into energetic thermal interactions and fuel-coolant contact mechanisms which would determine the type and severity of interactions."
3.
Article I - Description of Work, Part C. Work Required Task 1 -
Energetic Thermal Interactions, is hereby further amended by incorporating Paragraphs C and D as follows:
"C.
Prepare testimony input for the Indian Point Hearing.(HIP) in the area of steam-explosions. A letter report is due on this on February 8, 1982.
D.
Prepare final draft-input to Appendix C of update NUREG-0850
' Assessment of Core Melt Accidents at the Zion and Indian Point Huclear Power Plants and Strategies for flitigating Their Effects (Z/IP Report).'
A letter report on this is due June 30, 1982."
4.'
' Article I - Description of Work, Part C. Work Required, is hereby amended by deleting Task II - Recriticality, in its entirety and substituting the following in lieu thereof:
" Task II - Molten. Core Accident Progessions A.
The contractor shall identify and estimate core-melt interactions
.phenomenology resulting from thermally-induced material motion and its potential consequences for the specific nuclear power plants involved in specific licensing actions.
The contractor
~
shall perform small simulant-material tests as necessary to investigate the possible modes to justify the conclusions and I
recommendations.
B.
Review and evaluate, in detail, Section 3, ' Degraded Core Phenomena' and Section 4,' Transient Analysis' of the ' Zion l
Probabilistic Safety Study (ZPSS)' noting areas of agreement, areas of disagreement and areas where more information is l
needed from the utility.
Concentrate on those aspects that I
the Contractor believes have a major impact on the accident l
consequences.
A written report on this is due January 15, 1982.
C.
Subsequent to meetings with the utilities on key areas (the meetings will be held in January) prepare a final evaluation of Sections 3 and 4.
A written report on this is due February 12, 1982.

Prepare testimony input for the Indian Point Hearing (HIP) in the areas of thermally-induced material motion (basemat penetration and debris bed coolability). A letter report on this is due February 8,1982.
E.
Prepare final draft-input to Appendix B of update NUREG-0850 Z/IP Report.
A letter report on this is due June 30, 1982."
