My family and I have grave concerns about the company applying for that license, Holtec, given its history of cutting corners and using materials based on purchasing at the lowest price, rather than for the highest degree of safety and efficacy.
It takes a long time and a great deal of skill to safely and properly decommission a nuclear power plant, and although we are relieved that the plant is closing, we are deeply worried about the future of our family, our friends and neighbors, our water, and all the people living in the shadow of a facility that still harbors highly radioactive, extremely dangerous spent fuel rods. We deserve this task to be done by a company with a sterling record, one that uses appropriately sized canisters with walls 10-20" thick, not one that's been using steel only about 1/2" thick, with a potential Chernobyl in each canister.
