Mr. James Erophy Administrator 1515 Main Street Ilighland, Illinois 62249 Centlemen:

Thank you for your letter dated March 19, 1982, informing us of the steps you have taken to correct the noncompliance which we brought to your attention in our letter dated March 4, 1982.

In response to paragraph six concerning wipe tests of the generator storage area, Appendix C of the February 1976 Draft Licensing Guide states that routine surveys should be carried out in two parts to determine both radiation levels and renovable contamination icvels. Your spent generator and its packing materials are handled in the nuclear medicine hot labora-tory before they are transferred to the basement for storage. Wipe tests of the generator storage area should be performed to ensure that no con-tamination was transferred from the hot laboratory. The generator storage area cay also be contaminated by leakage from the spent generator's elunte.

This letter also refers to the telephone conversation between Mr. Ifelvin long of your staff and Mr. W. P. Reichhold of this office on April 1, 1982, concerning your corrective actions.

It is our understanding that your corrective actions included the following:

1.

Wipe tests of the surface of packages containAng radioactive materials were implemented on March 5, 1982.

2.

The camera room exhaust fan has been in continuous operation since February 15, 1982.

3.

The procedures described in your license for determining the xenon-133 gas trap efficiency were implemented on March 8, 1982.

4.

Weekly wipe tests of the generator storage area were implemented, on February 15, 1982.
