Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on rP Scalant Tape (Catalog No. G6250 and G6350) (#60)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

On March 9,1982, Project Quality Assurance's Mr. E.L. Thcupson, Acting Supervisor - Construction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. J.E. Konklin of NRC-Region III, to report on a problem with Grafoil Pipe Sealant Tape (Catalog No. G6250 and G6350) at the Fermi 2 site.

Prior to May 1981, no particular catalog number of Grafoil Tape was speci-fled, and no certificate of Ccupliance (C of C) was required. In May 1981, Edison Engineering specified that Grafoil Catalog Numbers G6255 and G6305 with certificates of Ccupliance were required. Since then, an undetennined number of rolls of Grafoil G6250, G6255 and G6350 have been installed with-out C of C's. The exact number of rolls of each catalog number cannot be determined at this time because all Grafoil Tape was stored together. Since this tape is required to be used on the pipe thread ends of all instrurtent lines, fittings and ccuponents, there is a high probability of this tape being installed in safety mlated systems.

Edison Engineering is presently evaluating the useability of the available tape. The tape manufacturer has already been contacted to obtain C of C's for the G6250 tape. Reportability will be determined by the safety implica-tions of the installed tape.

Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent to you on or before August 6,1982. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor - Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours, I
