This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by llRC staff on this date.

APPREHENSI0tl 0F EMPLOYEE llITH WEAP0ll At about 0800 hours0.00926 days <br />0.222 hours <br />0.00132 weeks <br />3.044e-4 months <br /> CUT June 4,1982, a part-time, sunner employee reported to work with a loaded fiream in her purse. The weapon was detected by the access screening tretal detector, and the employee was detained at the badge-The employee's security access badge has been lifted, and the licensee house.

is investigating the incident. Local law enforement authorities have not as yet been notified; however, the licensee plans to do so following preliminary invescigation.

The employee is a student at University of Nebraska in Omaha and is attending classes in the evenings concurrent with her employment at Fort Calhoun Station.

She purportedly was carrying the weapon for self protection related to the evening study and forgot to remove it from her purse before reporting for work.

The licensee indicates that she has been employed for about 2 weeks.

The resident reactor inspector is onsite and is monitoring licensee investiga-tive activities.

Media interest is not expected. Neither the licensee nor RIV plan to issue a press release.

The licensee made prompt notification to Regica IV by phone on June 4,1982, via the ilQ Duty Officer.
