Dear Mr. Keppler:
This is Detroit Edison's final report on the Thermal Growth Clearance for CRD Penetrations between Biological Shield and the Primarf Containment.
problem. This problem was originally reported to Mr. J. Konklin of NRC Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. G.J. Carter, OA Engineer - Construction Quality Assurance, on May 28, 1981.
At that time, it was determined that there was questionable clearance to allow for thermal growth of the primary containment vessel with respect to the CRD penetration in the Biological Shield. Reactor Controls, in empleting installation of the CRD lines, noted instances where the speci-fled slope of the CRD lines had been exceeded.
The work has been ccmpleted. The final configuration of penetrations X-37A, X-37B, X-37C, and X-37D has been approved by Edison Engineering via As-Built ABC-65.
