A decision has been made to dismantle the k eaching nuclear reactor here at Tuskegee Institute. With regard to that we need to make a one-time shipment of fuel to Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
We understand that 10 CFR 71 requires we have an approved Quality Assurance Program for shipment of our AGN-201 fuel. Our QA Program as approved by the Tuskegee Institute Radiation Safety Committee on May 11, 1982 is hereby submitted to you for NRC approval.
If there are questions concerning it I would appreciate it if you would call me (205 727-8458) and advise me of that so that we can make any necessary corrections quickly.
Our problem with the shipment is that my Senior Reactor Operators license expires in July, 1982 and no one else on the present faculty / staff has a license.
I know that is not a problem with your office but it is with dismantling the system. We need to have the fuel shipped prior to expira-tion of my license or else go through reapplication and qualification for license.
If you could approve our QA Program (if it is in order) expedi-tiously, it will help us avoid that problem with dismantling the AGN-201 system here at the Institute. Your assistance in that would be greatly appreciated.
