" Defective Valve Actuators (Fisher Controls)"

Sixth Interim Report

Reference:

1) Telecon - L. L. Bass (LP&L) to B. Crossman (NRC) on 5/18/82
2) LP&L Letter W3K-82-0010 to NRC dated 1/11/82

Dear Mr. Collins:

In reference (2), LP&L committed to submit a final report on this SCD by May 14, 1982.

Since that time, additional problems have been encountered.

During the original corrective action, pitting was identified on four (4) of the valve actuators' spring cylinders. This problem was documented by Ebasco's Quality Control and was evaluated by Ebasco Engineerlag. Subsequently, Ebasco Engineering contacted the vendor technical representative who has now inspected the valve actuators. Based on his recommendations to replace three (3) of the spring cans and one set of piston seals, Ebasco procurement is securing these parts. The estimated date for delivery of this material is August 13, 1982.

Based on the receipt of material by August 13, 1982, we expect that the con-struction corrective action will be completed and a Final Report of this Significant Construction Deficiency provided by October 15, 1982.

Very truly yours, GDMcL/LLB/grf D
