UNITED STATES E
i, NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION h
E WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555
\\*****/
0Y CHAIRMAN The Honorable Jack Brooks, Chairman Committee on Go,vernment Operations United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C.
20515
Dear Mr. Chairman:
This is in response to your letter of April 14, 1982 requesting this agency's comments on H.R. 6005, a bill to discontinue or amend certain requirements for agency reports to Congress.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission supports subsections 121(a) and (b) of H.R. 6005 as they would eliminate certain reporting obligations of the agency.
Subsection 121(c) which would repeal Section 4 of the Price-Anderson Act should be deleted from the bill. The reporting requirements under the original Price-Anderson Act (Public Law 82-256) were codified in section 170 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. The reporting requirements now in section 170 continue to be appropriate.
We also have a minor comment regarding the amendatory language in subsection 121(b) of the bill. That subsection would repeal section 201(h) of the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974. The parenthetical citation to the basic statute which accompanies the reference to section 201(h) should, we believe, also include the 1977 amendment to the Energy Reorganization Act which added paragraph (h) to that section.
That l
addition was in Public Law 95-209, section 2; 91 Stat. 1482 (1977).
We appreciate being given the opportunity to comment or, the bill.
Sincerely,
-( g%{b v
