V, yg This is in response to your letter dated March 16, 1982 request ng an %
exemption from 10 CFR 70.51(e)(1)(1) for fuel ads on the May 1 an physical inventory.
We have reviewed your request to use the existing sy:: tem for fuel rods on the May 1 and 2,1982 physical inventory and have determined that granting it will not adversely affect the comon defense and security nor the public health and safety and is otherwise in the public interest. Accordingly, Safeguards Amendment MPP-1 to your License No. SNM-1107 is hereby revised, effective imediately, by adding a new license condition to read as follows:
Notwithstanding the requirement of 10 CFR 70.51(e)(1)(1) which requires a quantity detemination on each fuel rod, the licensee for the May 1 and 2,1982 physical inventory may use the existing system to determine the quantity of SPM in fuel rods.
On April 1, 1982, Mr. Gundersen discussed with Mr. H. Foster the request to withhold the letter as containing 10 CFR 2.790(d) infomation. It was agreed that the letter does not contain information of a type specified in 10 CFR 2.790(d) and that a copy of the letter will be placed in the public document room.
