0F RADON CALIBRATION STANDARD

The staff has reviewed the summary report by the Committee on Radon Measurements of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD) (see enclosed letter from Larry Lloyd (Chairman CRCPD Radon Committee) to G. Eadie (NRC); dated January 19,1982).. The staff concurs

with the CRCPD Radon Committee recommendation that a radon calibration standard should be developed by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) in order to standardize radon measurements.
The existence of a radon calibration standard would be beneficial to assuring the accuracy of radon measurements at NRC and Agreement State licensed uranium recovery facilities.
Therefore, WM agrees with your funding the NBS to develop a National Radon Calibration Standard.
