CF Thank you for your interest in the NRC high-level waste licensing program as expressed in your letter of March 24, 1982 to John Davis.
I specifically want to acknowledge your request, under the provisions of 10 CFR 60.62(a), for NRC staff assistance in developing a proposal for participation by the State of Texas in the technical review of any submittals by the Department of Energy for siting and construction of a high-level waste repository in Texas if this were to occur.
We would be pleased to begin working with you to assess how Texas might be involved in NRC's high level waste licensing process. As we previously discussed, I am ' enclosing background Linformation on.Our program, including ~
excerpts from our' Procedural Rule, a summary of-h_igh-level waste' licensing activities that I recently presented to a' meeting ~ of state liaison officers, and two NRC trip reports on DOE investigations in bedded and domal salt areas. After you review these materials, please contact me about followup discussions with you and your staff.
I also note your interest in participating in the technical review of the low level radioactive waste packaging and handling activities of nuclear power plants in Texas. Your letter has been forwarded to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), which has licensing responsibility in DIST:
