Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Eddy Current Testing Program This letter is in response to your April 12 Request for Additional Information on our eddy current testing program.
As your staf f is aware from previous discussions, our program has been continually changing in scope in response to new data. At the present time, testing has been suspended pending analysis of additional tube samples removed from the steam generator. When this analysis is complete, all eddy current and metallographic data available will be evaluated to determine whether further eddy current testing is necessary. With this plan of action, the information requested by your letter is simply not yet available.
Each of the concerns raised has been considered, and incorporated into the plans for several documents we have in preparation. These documents include the Eddy Current Qualification Program, a formal update to our Licensing Event Report including the extent of damage, and a safety evaluation for return of the steam generators to service. These documents should be com-plete in June.
When available, they will be supplied to your staff.
In the interim, we will continue to make all data available to you on site.
