Dear Mr. Garvey:
Please find enclosed LILCO's proposed aquatic monitoring plan for the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station-Unit 1.
This plan is submitted in fulfillment of Requirement No. 5 of Part I of the SPDES permit for this facility.
You will note that the plan encompasses three major areas of monitoring:
1)
A continuation of the on-going preoperational aquatic monitoring program (which is now in its sixth year of sampling).
Annual reports documenting results of the preoperational program have been issued for the years 1977-1981, inclusive.
This program, which will be entitled the Offshore Aquatic Monitoring Program (OSAMP),
is designed to assess any thermal effects of plant operation.
2)
A new program to monitor and determine abundance and survival of echthyoplankton entrained into the plands circulating water system.
This will be termed the Entrainment Monitoring Program (EMP).
3)
A new program to determine abundance and survival of fish impinged upon the plant's travelling water screens.
This program will La termed the Impingement Monitoring Program (IMP).
