Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Shipment of Submerged Demineralizer System Expended Liner The purpose of this letter is to apprise you cf GPU's plans for ship-ment of the Submerged Demineralizer System (SDS) expended liners.

These liners will be shipped from Three Mile Island to a Department of Energy (DOE) Facility by the DOE using a Model No. CNS 1-13C II shipping container.

Prior to shipment, the liner and shipping container will be prepared for shipment by GPU in accordance with procedures approved pursuant to Technical Specification 6.8,

" Procedures", and in compliance with Certificate of Compliance No.

9152/B, Revision 0, for the CNS 1-13C II shipping container.

In accordance with the current schedule for shipping SDS liners, a lower loaded SDS liner will be shipped in late May 1982, to allow DOE to commence their Research and Development Program.

Shipments of the more highly loaded liners are planned to commence during the fourth quarter of 1982.

Additionally, EG&G, Idaho, has prepared for DOE a Safety Assessment Document (SAD) for shipment of a lower loaded SDS liner which has been approved by the DOE.

This SAD concludes that the shipment can be safely made. DOE has informed CPU that a copy of this document will be provided to you for your information by the DOE.
