This letter refers to the deficiencies identified during your initial installation and testing of the Prompt Notificction System.
The final rule as published in the Federal Register (46FR63032) on December 30, 1981 provides up to four months for correction of deficiencies identified during the initial installation and testing.
As discussed during a conversation with Mr. John Maracek of your staff and Ms.
M. Mojta of this office on May 5, 1982, we understand that you will correct the identified deficiencies prior to June 1, 1982.
These actions include repairint or replacing motors on sirens that show evidence of smoking.
Please inform this office in writing when the deficiencies have been corrected.
If our understanding of your planned actions described above is not in accordance with your actual plans and actions being implemented, please contact H. W.

As you are aware, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has the responsibility to determine the adequacy of the Prompt Notification System.

The responses directed by this letter are not subject to the clearance procedures of the Of fice of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
