In the Matter of CONSOLIDATED EDISON CO. OF NEW YORK (Indian Point Unit 2)
POWER AUTHORITY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK (Indian Point Unit 3)
Docket Nos. 50-247-SP and 50-286-SP Gentlemen:
At our Second Prehearing Confe.rence, the Board requested that we provide it with possible hearing locations in the vicinity of the Indian Point plant (Tr. at 828-29).
We offer the following suggestions:
The town of Haverstraw has two appropriate locations.
The Haverstraw Town Hall auditorium has a capacity of several hundred persons.
The Hotel Thayer (West Point) and the Bear Mountain Lodge are ten minutes away.
The Indian Point units are across the river, ap-proximately two miles away.
Access routes to Haverstraw consist of Route 9W and the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
Phil Rotella, Supervisor of the Town of Haverstraw, (tel. no. 914-429-2200) is the person to be contacted.
We note that this location was also recommended by Ms. Kessler of Rockland Citizens for Safe Energy at the Second Prehearing Conference (Tr. at 830).

Another location is the North Rockland High School, also in Haverstraw.
The auditorium has a seating capacity of approximately 900.
The high school's address
/D is Hammond Road, Thiells, New York.

-a.i High School was recommended as a location by the Rockland County Attorney, Marc L. Parris, in a December 9,1981 letter to the Board.
The person to be contacted is George Thamsen, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, c/o Haverstraw Stony Point School District, 117 Main Street, Stony Point, New York 10980.
His telephone number is 914-942-2700.
4 The Clarkstown Town Hall in New City has two rooms available:
the auditorium and Room 311.
Room 311 has a seating capacity of one hundred; the auditorium has a capacity of about three hundred.
Clarkstown is readily accessible to Route 9W and the Palisades Parkway.
The Hotel Thayer, Bear Mountain Lodge, as well as hotels near the New York State Thruway are one-half hour away.
Clarkstown is five to seven miles from Indian Point.
The person to be contacted is Ted Dusenko, Supervisor of the Town of Clarkstown (914-634-4100).
This location was also recommended by Ms. Fleischer of West Branch Conserva-tion Association at the Second Prehearing Conference (Tr. at 833).
The Yorktown Community Center, with a capacity of four hundred people, is also available as a location for the hearings.
Yorktown is five miles from the Indian Point plant, and is readily accessible to the Taconic Parkway.
There are accommodations near the Taconic entrance at the Yorktown Motor Lodge.
Nancy Elliot, j
Supervisor of the Town of Yorktown, is the person to be contacted.
Her telephone number is 914-962-5722.
These facilities are suggested to the Board as appropriate locations for the hearings.
We have been advised that all are accessible to handicapped persons and are air-conditioned.
We particularly wish to emphasize that the selection of one of these facilities would comply with what we believe to be the normal Commission practice in operating license proceedings, tha t is, to have the hearings in the vicinity of the plants.
